Greg Abbott Criticizes Biden’s ‘Ineffective’ Immigration Plans
Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott on Friday released a statement criticizing President Joe Biden’s immigration proposals and urging the administration to either follow Texas’ lead or step aside.
The Department of Homeland Security is reportedly considering a new regulation to expedite the asylum denials for immigrants with criminal backgrounds or deemed as national security risks.
In his statement, Abbott denounced the proposal as inadequate and unlikely to address the surging illegal immigration issue.
He pointed out that President Biden has the authority to enforce existing laws set by Congress, including denying illegal entry, detaining illegal immigrants, and constructing border barriers.
Abbott also defended Texas’ border policies, which include constructing a border wall, using deterrent measures like razor wire and buoy barriers, and deploying state law enforcement personnel to curb illegal immigration.
He highlighted the success of Texas’ Operation Lone Star in reducing illegal immigration and urged President Biden to follow their example or step aside.
