Vice President Kamala Harris is the only Democrat candidate who has acquired enough delegates to qualify for the virtual roll call to nominate the party’s official presidential candidate.

On Tuesday, Democratic National Committee chairs Jaime Harrison and Minyon Moore announced Harris’s qualification, explaining that she has acquired 3,923 delegates and would be the only candidate to be considered.

They also stated that the roll call is set to begin on Thursday morning and will later wrap up on Monday.

“Democratic delegates from across the nation made their voices heard, overwhelmingly backing Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic Party’s presumptive nominee,” the two said in a joint statement. “As we prepare to open the voting on our virtual roll call, we move to this final stage of our nomination process with unprecedented momentum and unity across our party.”

“We look forward to celebrating together with all of our delegates in Chicago, where we will show up in full force as a strong, united Party laser-focused on defeating Donald Trump and JD Vance in November,” they added.

If just one candidate was eligible for the nomination, the DNC intended to hold a virtual roll call on Thursday. To be eligible, 300 delegates must sign a petition of support, with no more than 50 delegates from any one state by Tuesday at 6 p.m.

When Harris declared her intentions to run for the 2024 Democrat nomination on July 21st, shortly after President Joe Biden stepped down from the race, she rapidly gained the support of far more delegates than the 1,976 required to win the nomination.

Harris will be named the official nominee weeks before the Democratic National Convention (DNC) on August 19th in Chicago.

The vice president has not yet chosen her running mate, however, whomever she chooses will be set to travel to battleground states next week, Harris’s campaign announced.

She is expected to announce her pick in advance of the DNC on August 7th.
