Harvard Report to House Details Efforts to Combat Antisemitism
Harvard University has stated in documents provided to the House Education Committee that it is actively fighting against antisemitism on its campus and will continue to take measures to combat it in all forms.
In response to a subpoena from the House Education Committee, Harvard submitted over 1,500 documents on Monday, including a report detailing its efforts to combat antisemitism. The committee had claimed that Harvard was uncooperative in its investigation into antisemitism on U.S. college campuses, as reported by The Hill.
A spokesperson from Harvard emphasized that the university’s fight against antisemitism includes engaging with students, faculty, and staff to identify the causes of antisemitic behavior and address them. The university is focused on ensuring the safety and sense of belonging for Jewish students on campus so that every member of the community is valued and supported.
The efforts described in the report to Congress include increasing security and safety personnel where Jewish students gather, clarifying policies on protests, and opposing boycotts of Israel and related institutions. Harvard also offers an anonymous hotline for reporting incidents of bias and has established a task force dedicated to fighting antisemitism.
The House Education Committee is currently reviewing the documents submitted by Harvard, noting that the university has provided a substantial amount of information since January, including internal communications and nonpublic information.
The subpoena was issued after the committee found Harvard did not provide the requested information and much of what was submitted had already been made public. Education Chair Virginia Foxx, R-N.C., emphasized the importance of taking action against antisemitism rather than just making statements.
