Hillary Clinton and Trump in Agreement: Democrats Will Enact Federal Abortion Law
Hillary Clinton and former President Donald Trump have found common ground on the issue of abortion: Democrats are pushing for a federal law on the matter.
“I have to give credit to Donald Trump. He’s right about this one!” Clinton wrote on X.
She shared a video clip of Trump’s comments to the National Rifle Association on Saturday, where he discussed his view that abortion law should be left to the states as a states’ rights issue. The speech was broadcast live on Newsmax and Newsmax2 streaming platform.
“If the radical Democrat extremists have their way, they will push for a federal law on abortion,” Trump said during his speech in Dallas.
Critics point out that Trump has shifted his stance on abortion for political reasons, acknowledging that conservatives need to be flexible on the issue to secure votes.
“Trump’s views on abortion have been inconsistent over the years,” NBC News reported.
Trump is now taking a more cautious approach to the issue, which some believe could pose a challenge for Republicans.
Abortion is expected to be a key issue in the 2024 election, with Democrats hoping to mobilize pro-choice women and independent voters. States like Florida, Maryland, and New York will have abortion-related measures on the ballot in November, with eight more states, including Arizona, considering similar measures.
During his presidency, Trump appointed three Supreme Court justices who were part of the majority decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, returning the matter of abortion laws to the states.
Trump has claimed credit for reshaping the Supreme Court with a conservative majority and prioritizing states’ rights on abortion. Following the 2022 overturning of Roe v. Wade, Republican-led states have implemented new restrictions on abortion.
Most recently, Biden criticized Trump for the six-week abortion ban in Florida during campaign events in the state.
“Biden has expressed his intention to establish national legislation protecting abortion rights as outlined in Roe v. Wade, but he would face challenges in passing such legislation through Congress,” NBC News reported.
