Sunny Hostin, a prominent figure on The View, finds herself in a storm of controversy as her husband faces allegations of federal insurance fraud as the new year unfolds.

Described as “one of the largest RICO cases ever filed in New York,” the case involves nearly 200 defendants, including orthopedic surgeon Dr. Emmanuel “Manny” Hostin.
Dr. Hostin and many others are being investigated for allegedly conducting surgeries and deceiving an insurance company that provides coverage for Uber and Lyft drivers, as well as taxi services, in order to secure large kickbacks.
“Hostin allegedly delivered fraudulent medical and healthcare services, including arthroscopic surgeries,” the lawsuit asserts, filed on December 17th.
Billing continued “in return for kickbacks and/or additional compensation, masked as dividends or other cash distributions,” directed to the insurance provider American Transit.
Sunny Hostin, 56, and her husband, who have been married for nearly 25 years since their wedding in 1998, have two children and reside in an elegant 10-bedroom, 10-bathroom residence in Purchase, New York.
They met in a church in Maryland shortly after he graduated from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 1996.
Sunny, a lawyer and former prosecutor, now co-hosts “The View” and serves as ABC News’ senior legal correspondent and analyst.
American Transit claims that “widespread” insurance fraud proliferates in New York State due to the state’s “No-Fault Law,” which mandates insurers to cover up to $50,000 in medical expenses for individuals injured in traffic accidents.
“These significant potential no-fault recoveries can motivate dishonest providers to over-diagnose, over-treat, and over-bill to maximize profits,” American Transit remarked in a statement.
“Collectively, those exploiting the No-Fault Law have amassed hundreds of millions in fraudulent claims, destabilizing the livery insurance sector in New York City, raising premiums for diligent taxi and livery drivers, and negatively impacting the public,” they added.
In this lawsuit, American Transit seeks damages exceeding $450 million.
The insurance provider alleges that Hostin benefited from a “constant influx” of patients in exchange for an “investment” stake in Empire State Ambulatory Surgery Center.
“Empire State ASC made regular payments to or for the benefit of Hostin, which were, in reality, illegal kickbacks for referrals,” the court documents reveal.
