House GOP Report Challenges Credibility of Jan. 6 Committee’s Key Witness
House Republicans criticized the credibility of the main witness used by Democrats in their investigation of the Jan. 6, 2021, riots on Capitol Hill and then-President Donald Trump’s alleged involvement.
The House Administration Subcommittee on Oversight released an 81-page report highlighting inconsistencies and lack of corroboration in the testimony of former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson.
The panel, led by Rep. Barry Loudermilk, R-Ga., pointed out that Hutchinson’s testimony had evolved over time and raised doubts about her claim that Trump tried to grab the steering wheel of his presidential SUV during the Capitol riot.
Hutchinson, a former aide to Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, faced scrutiny for her changing testimony, which her attorney attributed to pressure from Trump-funded counsel.
Loudermilk and House Republicans have been investigating the events of Jan. 6 since early 2023, criticizing Democrats for their handling of the issue while in the majority.
