House Republicans to Release Additional Footage of January 6th Incident
House Republicans have announced that media outlets, as well as some nonprofits and defendants in Capitol riot-related criminal cases, will have access to previously unseen security camera footage from the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot. The new policy allows these groups to request appointments to view the footage, with media organizations also being permitted to request clips for use. However, the release of specific clips to the media will be at the discretion of committee staff. The move is seen as a step towards transparency and accountability, contrasting with the previous Democratic leadership’s handling of the footage. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy had previously granted Tucker Carlson exclusive access to a large amount of video footage, pledging that the rest of the media would eventually be given access as well.
