Hunter Expresses Disappointment Over Depleted Finances in Recent Text Messages

Hunter Biden complained to his uncle in late 2018 that he was out of money and needed help from his father, President Joe Biden, to pay for things like food and gas, according to a trove of text messages and other documents released by the House Ways and Means Committee.

Hunter Biden, who Republicans say made millions in ill-gotten gains through business deals abroad, complained to James Biden on Dec. 29, 2018, that “it’s all gone.”

The release by the House panel was part of IRS whistleblower documents.

“But I can’t pay alimony w/o Dad or tuitions or for food and gas. Really it’s all gone,” Hunter Biden texted James Biden, the president’s brother. “I can go make it up in 15/20 days I’m sure, but he’s basically made it clear that he’s not paying alimony b/c Mom made clear that she won’t do it.”

The tuitions pertain to Hunter Biden’s three children.

Hunter Biden added that he was moving back into Joe Biden’s mansion in Delaware after a failed romantic relationship with Hallie Biden, who was married to Hunter’s brother, Beau Biden, for 13 years before his death in 2015.

“Hallie won’t allow me to be at the house or lend me or pay me back any money,” Hunter Biden texted his uncle. “Ashley moves into momoms [sic] house after I told dad that I would move in there. … That night I tell dad I want to probably stay in the area and [sic] specifically I wanted to live by you and teach my course at Penn and maybe develop another one.”

James Biden offered to help.

“This can work, you need a safe harbor. I can work with your father alone!!” James Biden texted back. “We as usual just need several months of his help for this to work. Let’s talk about it. It makes perfect sense to me. This is difficult to fully vet without talking.”

The back-and-forth was released by the House panel as an example of an obstruction claim levied by one IRS whistleblower. Joe Ziegler told House Republicans that they were not allowed to ask James Biden about that particular text exchange due to “an environment established by the assigned prosecutors.”

“This would not allow us to follow normal investigative leads and fully understand the business relationship between James Biden and his family,” Ziegler testified.

It was Joe Biden’s residence in Wilmington, Delaware, that was listed as the address on two wire transfers to Hunter Biden totaling $260,000 from Chinese nationals just a few months later.
