The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have commenced strikes in Gaza after directives from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz to “take decisive action” against Hamas, following the militant group’s refusal to free additional hostages.

On Monday, the IDF issued a statement detailing the abrupt escalation, cautioning that they would target Hamas terror installations.
“As ordered by the political leadership, the IDF and Shin Bet are launching extensive attacks on Hamas terror sites across the Gaza Strip,” the IDF and Shin Bet stated in a joint release, promising further details will be shared soon.
Netanyahu’s office has indicated that Hamas “turned down all propositions” presented by U.S. special envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff and other negotiators involved in ceasefire discussions.
According to Netanyahu’s office, Israel aims to accomplish its war objectives by all means necessary, including the dismantling of Hamas’ military and governance structures to facilitate the return of hostages.
“Moving forward, Israel will engage Hamas with escalating military force,” Netanyahu’s office asserted, noting that plans for the resumption of IDF actions were sanctioned by the political leadership last week.
