IDF’s Lerner Tells Newsmax: Approaching Cease-Fire ‘One Day at a Time’

Israel is interested in continuing the cease-fire deal to secure the release of hostages taken by Hamas in the Oct. 7 raids, but Lt. Col. Peter Lerner, the Israel Defense Forces spokesman is uncertain if the other side will agree. “We’re taking it every day as it comes,” Lerner told Newsmax’s “Wake Up America.”.

Lerner expressed concern that Hamas is preventing the transfer of humanitarian aid from south Gaza to the north and is delaying the release of hostages. He is coordinating with international humanitarian organizations to ensure that the aid reaches the people in Gaza who need it.

He also rejected claims that the “collapse of Israel is clear” made by the commander in chief of the Islamic Republic of Iran army, Abdolrahim Mousavi. Lerner stated that Israel is determined to prevent Hamas from controlling the Gaza Strip as a governing authority, and pointed out that the cease-fire was initiated in pursuit of Hamas’ mistaken action on the 7th of October.

Regarding Iran’s investment in Hamas, Lerner assured that it will be a “wasted investment” and maintained that Israel is committed to preventing the terrorist organization from exerting authority in the Gaza Strip.
