Walz has announced that he is “considering” a run for the presidency in 2028.

The Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (D-Minn.) recently appeared as the vice presidential nominee alongside former Vice President Kamala Harris.

Since their significant defeat on election day, where the Democratic duo did not secure any swing states, reports indicate that Walz and Harris have only talked “a couple of times,” as cited by The New Yorker. It remains uncertain why the Democratic Party chose Walz as her running mate.

While Walz had previously commented on the future of the Democratic Party, he has left the possibility open for a comeback; yet he had previously stated he did not intend to seek a top leadership position.

“I never had the ambition to be President or Vice-President. I was honored to be asked,” he remarked.

“If I feel like I can serve, I will. And if nationally, people think, ‘Dude, we tried you, and look how that worked out,’ I’m okay with that,” Walz added. “If I believe I could contribute something… I would certainly consider that.”

“I’ll do whatever it takes. I certainly wouldn’t be arrogant enough to assume that it needs to be me.”

Walz remarked that the 2024 election loss, with President Donald Trump victorious, is “one I’ll carry with me for life.”

“As [an] old white guy who ran for vice president, you tend to be fine. Yet I still struggle with it… seeing Medicaid cuts being discussed, witnessing the demonization of LGBTQ individuals, these are personal burdens I carry.”

As of March 3rd, 2025, no cuts have been implemented to Medicaid in the U.S., according to the California Health Care Foundation.

Meanwhile, social media users are expressing their opinions on a potential Walz return.

“Ah, good ole Tampon Tim,” commented Lt. Col. Reagan.

“As a Democrat, I can’t even begin to describe how unexciting this notion is,” another user expressed.

“The odds of that asteroid hitting earth in 2032 are better than Tim Walz becoming president in 2028,” a third user quipped.

Additionally, the Minnesota governor has been focusing on showing support for Ukraine, recently criticizing President Trump for “embarrassing the United States on the world stage” after asking Zelensky to leave the Oval Office during a meeting.

Trump supporters argue that the Ukrainian president was the first to show disrespect towards Trump and that Trump managed the situation well.

Walz is currently in his second term as the governor of Minnesota, having previously served 12 years in Congress before securing the gubernatorial position in 2018.
