In North Dakota, Rep. Armstrong Emerges Victorious in Republican Primary Race for Governor
Rep. Kelly Armstrong emerged victorious in the Republican primary for governor of North Dakota on Tuesday, while Julie Fedorchak secured the primary win for Armstrong’s House seat. This positions them well for the upcoming November general election.
Armstrong’s lead over Lt. Gov. Tammy Miller stood at 72.2% to 27.8% with 65% of precincts reporting, according to Newsmax and DecisionDesk HQ. He is now set to succeed Republican Gov. Doug Burgum, who opted not to seek a third term and is rumored to be a possible running mate for former President Donald Trump.
Expressing his gratitude, Armstrong stated, “We’ve never taken anything for granted in this race. We never take our supporters for granted. We never take North Dakota for granted, and we’re really excited, and we’re excited to move to the next step.”
Meanwhile, Fedorchak, a seasoned Public Service Commissioner, maintained a significant lead over her competitors in the primary race. Her victory sets her up to compete against Democratic nominee Merrill Piepkorn in the general election.
The GOP primaries play a pivotal role in North Dakota politics, as Republicans have dominated statewide contests for years. With Armstrong and Fedorchak leading the charge, they are poised to continue this trend.
Both Armstrong and Fedorchak have received endorsements from influential figures, including Trump and Burgum. Their successes in the primaries signal a strong Republican presence in North Dakota’s upcoming elections.
The next governor will face a challenging landscape, having to navigate various policy priorities, financial considerations, and potential tax reforms. This responsibility falls on the shoulders of the victors in the recent primaries as they gear up for the general election in November.
