A new poll has revealed that Independent voters believe President Joe Biden is a bigger threat to Democracy than former President Donald Trump.

An NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll showed that 53% of participants believed Biden is the greatest threat right now to Democracy, with Trump receiving 42% of the vote.

The poll consisted of 1,199 Americans who participated from April 22nd-24th. There is a 3.6 point margin of error.

“I find it shocking,” MSNBC commentator Susan Del Percio said about the poll. “I can’t make sense of that number. I wish I could. I wish I had some really great insight into it.”

This comes as Trump continues to improve his polling numbers among Biden’s key demographics.

Trump is currently in a dead heat with Biden among suburban women, an ABC News/Ipsos poll found in May, which was a demographic that favored Biden in the 2020 presidential election.

In April 2023, 54% of White suburban women supported Biden and 41% supported Trump, according to a Wall Street Journal poll.

Meanwhile, 30% of Black men and 11% of Black women intend to vote for Trump in 2024, according to another Wall Street Journal poll conducted in April.

This comes after only 12% of Black men voted for Trump in 2020, according to compiled voting data.

Trump leads Biden in the Hispanic vote by five points with a 39% to 34% support, which is up 33 points since 2020, a recent USA Today/Suffolk University poll revealed.
