Ipsos Poll: Biden Losing Support Across the Board Due to Conflict with Hamas

A recent Reuters/Ipsos poll has revealed deep divisions among Democrats regarding President Joe Biden’s handling of the Gaza conflict and the protests on U.S. campuses against it. This divide is straining the coalition that helped Biden defeat Donald Trump four years ago.

According to the poll conducted from May 7-14, 44% of registered Democrat voters disapprove of Biden’s response to the crisis, with those disapproving less likely to vote for him in the upcoming election. Biden has faced criticism within his party for continuing to supply arms to Israel amid escalating tensions in Gaza.

The ongoing conflict in Gaza and the campus protests have challenged Biden’s campaign promise to restore stability after Trump’s tumultuous presidency. Trump has capitalized on this unrest, urging dissenting voters to support him.

While the poll shows only 34% of registered voters approving of Biden’s handling of the conflict, including 53% of Democrats, the issue continues to draw protests and calls for change.

Douglas Schoen, a pollster, expressed concerns about the impact of the Gaza issue on Biden’s support. The poll also highlighted how divided Americans are on the Israel policy, with many unsure about which party has the better approach.

Despite the challenges Biden faces within his own party, the poll suggests mixed reactions among voters, especially with the emergence of independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as a potential alternative. However, analysts remain uncertain about whether these issues will lead to a significant shift in voter loyalty.
