Israeli Official Urges Biden to Prioritize Toppling Hamas Over Netanyahu

A senior Israeli official emphasized on Tuesday that President Joe Biden should shift focus from toppling Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to dealing with Hamas.

The official made these comments in response to a report on Monday that U.S. intelligence agencies anticipate the collapse of Netanyahu’s coalition government.

Netanyahu stated on Monday, in response to the Biden administration’s attack, that “[t]o the extent that Hamas believes that there’s daylight between us, that doesn’t help.”

According to The Times of Israel, the source stated:

“Those who elect the prime minister of Israel are the citizens of Israel and no one else,” the official said in a statement to the media, interpreting the intelligence report as an attempt to remove Netanyahu.

“Israel is not a protectorate of the U.S. but rather an independent and democratic country whose citizens are the ones who elect the government. We expect our friends to work to bring down the terror regime of Hamas and not the elected government in Israel,” the official added.
