Vance is recognized as the first millennial Vice President.
On January 20th, 2025, during Inauguration Day festivities, the U.S. Marine Band performed in the Rotunda of the U.S. Capitol prior to the swearing-in ceremony for President-elect Donald Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance.
Democrat Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), who chairs the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies, highlighted the significance of the peaceful transfer of power in her remarks delivered from the U.S. Capitol on that Monday.
“Welcome to the 60th presidential inauguration. Today, President-elect Trump and Vice President-elect Vance will take their oaths of office, and we will witness the peaceful transfer of power at the heart of our democracy,” Klobuchar stated.
As Trump engaged with family members seated in the front row and shook hands with Vance, the crowd erupted in cheers upon his entrance. Vance, in a show of respect, also shook hands with President Joe Biden as he made his way to his seat.
Vance took the oath of office first. Following that, Trump proceeded to take his oath and deliver his inaugural address.
Vance donned a tailored navy blue Italian suit, custom-crafted by his longtime tailor in the Cincinnati suburbs for his inauguration.
A Bible previously owned by Vance’s great-grandmother served as the official Bible for his swearing-in. This family heirloom holds significant value; it was passed to him by his grandmother, Bonnie Vance, whom he affectionately calls “Mamaw,” just before he enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2003. The King James version is produced by Thomas Nelson and Sons.
The incoming address is centered around the theme of “restoring confidence” in America, shared by an incoming White House official with the press.
During his swearing-in, JD Vance solemnly pledged to uphold the Constitution, expressing true faith and allegiance to his country. Applause and cheers followed, as camera crews captured moments of Vance and his wife smiling and thanking nearby officials. Usha, Vance’s wife, was seen holding their daughter.
Shortly after, Trump’s swearing-in took place. He likewise vowed to defend the Constitution and the United States while raising his right hand. Trump greeted Biden along with his daughters Tiffany and Ivanka, and son Barron. Melania tipped her stylish black hat while taking her husband’s hand, all while smiling.
The U.S. Marine Band continued their performance, marching towards the front.
Trump appeared resolute yet bore an expression of pride, nodding as the song concluded.
The audience erupted into applause.
Trump took the podium, extending a warm welcome to former presidents and attending members of Congress.
“The golden age of America begins right now,” Trump declared.
