Jewish Americans Support Biden and Believe Antisemitism is Increasing, AJC Poll Finds
A recent poll conducted by the American Jewish Committee revealed that a majority of Jewish voters continue to support President Joe Biden. According to the poll, 61% of Jewish voters would vote for Biden, while 23% would vote for former President Donald Trump. This shows a slight decrease in support for Biden compared to the 2020 election, where he had a 64% to 21% edge over Trump among Jewish voters.
The poll also highlighted the concerns of American Jews regarding antisemitism, with 56% considering it a serious problem and 37% seeing it as somewhat of a problem. When it comes to handling antisemitism, a majority of those polled trust Biden over Trump, with 55% favoring Biden and 20% favoring Trump.
In the aftermath of the Oct. 7 terrorist attack on Israel by Hamas, the poll showed that 55% of respondents believe antisemitism has increased significantly, while 33% think it has increased somewhat. Only a small percentage believe antisemitism has decreased or remained the same.
Other findings from the poll include concerns about safety while displaying Jewish symbols in public, sharing thoughts on Israel on social media, and the importance of American support for Israel. Additionally, a significant portion of American Jews feel more connected to their Jewish identity following the recent events.
Based on the survey results, 49% of respondents believe Biden would be better for the US-Israel relationship, while 25% prefer Trump. Biden received an overall approval rating of 56%, although his handling of the Israel-Hamas war received slightly lower approval at 48%.
The AJC survey included 1,001 Jewish adults and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.9 percentage points.
