Jewish Group within GOP Refuses to Support Freedom Caucus Chair

The Republican Jewish Coalition criticized House Freedom Caucus Chair Bob Good, R-Va., for voting against the $95 billion emergency spending bill on Saturday, which included $17 billion in military aid to Israel.

Simultaneously, the coalition announced its support for Good’s opponent, veteran Navy SEAL and Virginia state Sen. John McGuire, in the upcoming Fifth District primary on June 18.

RJC CEO Matt Brooks stated, “If you don’t stand with the Jewish community, if you don’t stand with Israel, Republican or Democrat, the RJC will work to defeat you.” He added, “Congressman Bob Good (Va.-05) shamefully voted against this critical support for the Jewish state, abandoning Israel as it continues to fight for its survival after the worst massacre of Jews since the Holocaust,” as reported by the New York Post.

In response to the vote, Good defended his position by stating that while he supports Israel’s right to defend itself, he believes the U.S. cannot afford more unpaid supplemental spending bills given the $35 trillion national debt. He suggested that the Senate should have addressed the $14.2 billion paid-for Israel bill earlier to assist the ally.
