Jewish Organizations Boycott Biden Administration in Response to Left-Wing Groups
According to The New York Post, several Jewish groups chose to drop out of a scheduled meeting with top Biden Administration officials due to the last-minute addition of far-left groups. The Zoom call was meant to address pro-Palestinian demonstrations on college campuses.
Among those who decided to boycott the meeting were the Jewish Federations of North America, the Anti-Defamation League, the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, the Orthodox Union, the Brandeis Center for Human Rights Under Law, and Hillel International. Consequently, Education Secretary Miguel Cardona had to hold the meeting a second time.
The disagreement stemmed from the inclusion of organizations that opposed the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s (IHRA) definition of antisemitism.
The unexpected presence of groups like T’ruah, the Nexus Leadership Project, Bend the Arc, and Diaspora Alliance, which have left-leaning ideologies, surprised the attendees. Diaspora Alliance has been critical of Israel’s actions, leading one guest to describe them as “pretty anti-Israel.”
The meeting also addressed the need to balance free speech on college campuses with the protection of Jewish students who have reported being targeted and harassed by pro-Palestinian protesters.
Only the National Council of Jewish Women was represented in both calls.
