Joe Lieberman tells Newsmax that No Labels is not trying to be spoilers
No Labels is considering moving forward with a 2024 presidential campaign, but former Sen. Joe Lieberman, I-Conn., the founding chair, emphasized to Newsmax that they are not interested in being “spoilers.”
“We’re not going to run a candidate unless we believe that candidate and a running mate – who are likely to be moderates, independents, or centrists from both Democratic and Republican parties – can actually win the election,” Lieberman explained on Thursday’s “Wake Up America.” “We are serious about this. We do not want to cause division, but we are at a point where we need to make a decision.”
He went on to say, “About a year and a half ago, our members suggested that we explore something new, which is to field a bipartisan unity ticket to provide Americans with an alternative to what seemed like the inevitable choice between Presidents Trump and Biden. We initially decided to wait until after Super Tuesday to make a decision.”
“Now that Super Tuesday has passed, and it seems like it will be Trump versus Biden, which our No Labels members believe will not be beneficial for the country.”
No Labels members feel that a Trump-Biden rematch would be “too partisan, too divided, too much attack and counterattack,” and surveys reflect that a majority of Americans agree, according to Lieberman.
He stated, “Poll after poll shows that 65% to 70% of people want a third option other than Trump and Biden. So, we will present this question to 800 No Labels delegates from all 50 states tomorrow: ‘Do you want us to proceed?’
“We have been in talks with potential candidates. We have some strong possibilities. If our members give the green light, we will conduct further polling to assess our chances of winning and select the best ticket available.”
Regarding potential candidates for a No Labels ticket, Lieberman refrained from revealing any specifics.
“I cannot disclose that information, even to ‘Wake Up America,'” he mentioned. “I have a great respect for [Newsmax CEO] Chris Ruddy, but I cannot share that.”
