Jon Stewart Accuses Trump of Overvaluing His NYC Home by 829 Percent
Comedian Jon Stewart faced criticism for his remarks on former President Donald Trump’s real estate practices this week after it was revealed that he had engaged in similar tactics, as first reported by the New York Post.
During a recent segment, Stewart took issue with “Shark Tank” star Kevin O’Leary’s comments about Trump’s alleged crimes not being prosecuted, pointing out that similar practices are common among real estate developers. Stewart humorously questioned why O’Leary wasn’t upset about overvaluations in the real world, emphasizing that they are not victimless crimes.
In a particular instance, it was revealed that Stewart had sold his Tribeca duplex for $17.5 million when the market value in 2013-2014 was significantly lower at $1.882 million. Records also showed that Stewart paid lower property taxes based on the lower assessor valuation.
Interestingly, the New York assessor valuation method used for Stewart’s property is the same metric used by New York Attorney General Letitia James to assess Trump’s properties.
Trump and his associates have faced accusations of inflating property values to secure loans, resulting in a $454 million civil fraud judgment against him. However, a New York appeal court recently agreed to delay collection if Trump paid $175 million within 10 days.
