Jon Stewart denied interview with FTC Chief by Apple
Comedian and “The Daily Show” host Jon Stewart claimed that Apple, who previously hosted a talk show of his, refused to let him interview Federal Trade Commission Chair Lina Khan.
Stewart made this assertion during an interview with Khan on the “Daily Show” that aired on Monday night. Stewart collaborated with Apple TV on a show called “The Problem with Jon Stewart,” which started in 2021 but ended in October due to disagreements over topics and guests, as reported by The New York Times. The show also had a podcast.
During Monday’s interview with Khan, Stewart discussed her agency’s efforts to combat monopolies.
“I wanted to have you on a podcast, and Apple requested that we not do it,” Stewart revealed. “They specifically said, ‘Please don’t talk to her,’ for reasons unrelated to your professional work,” he added, eliciting laughter from the audience.
“I think they just didn’t … I don’t think they were fond of you, that’s what it boiled down to,” he humorously remarked before delving into his main inquiry. “Why is there this sensitivity? Why are they so hesitant to engage in these discussions publicly?”
Under Khan’s leadership, the FTC has not taken action against Apple. However, the Department of Justice recently filed an antitrust lawsuit against Apple, accusing the company of illegally dominating the smartphone market.
Stewart made a return to hosting “The Daily Show” on a weekly basis leading up to the November election. He departed from the show in 2015 after hosting it for 16 years.
