Jordan Peterson to Give Testimony on Bank Collusion
Dr. Jordan Peterson is scheduled to testify on Capitol Hill this week at a House hearing regarding allegations of government collusion with banks to monitor private financial data of U.S. citizens.
The House Judiciary Committee’s Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government, chaired by Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, will be conducting the hearing on Thursday. Earlier this year, Jordan revealed that the federal government was flagging financial transactions using terms like “MAGA” and “Trump” for banks.
“We now have evidence that financial institutions were alerted by the government when Americans used terms like ‘MAGA’ and ‘TRUMP’ in their transactions. Additionally, purchasing a religious text like a BIBLE or shopping at Bass Pro Shop was also flagged,” Jordan stated in a post at that time.
Peterson has expressed concerns about government exploitation of the financial system since February 2022 when Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau used the Emergencies Act to freeze the funds of “Freedom Convoy” protesters who were demonstrating against COVID-19 restrictions and vaccine mandates.
At that time, Peterson warned that “‘accounts will be frozen’ means the Canadian government now has the ability to confiscate your money in collaboration with banks if you supported a protest against the government. If you believe this is acceptable, you will face the consequences.”
Last year, he posted to X, “your seizure of Canadian bank accounts was the worst single act of the most reprehensible government in Canadian history.”
Other witnesses expected at Thursday’s hearing include Jeremy Tedesco, senior counsel at the Alliance Defending Freedom; Brian Knight, senior research fellow and director of Innovation and Governance at George Mason University’s Mercatus Center; and Norbert Michel, vice president and director of the Cato Institute’s Center for Monetary and Financial Alternatives.
