Jordan Sekulow tells Newsmax that SCOTUS Immunity Decision is a ‘Win’ for Trump

The Supreme Court’s decision to hear former President Donald Trump’s appeal for presidential immunity is considered a significant victory by lawyer Jordan Sekulow, the executive director of the American Center for Law and Justice, as he expressed on Newsmax.

Sekulow explained, “A stay is usually temporary. They have taken up the entire case and framed a specific question: ‘Can you be criminally charged for official acts as president?'”

The main victory for Trump, according to Sekulow, is that the Supreme Court’s decision will prevent the Department of Justice from starting a trial against Trump until a verdict is reached.

Sekulow predicted, “We probably won’t have a verdict until the last week of June. The court typically finishes issuing opinions by the first week of July, meaning the trial cannot proceed. The Department of Justice has a policy against actions that could be seen as influencing the election.”

The Supreme Court has announced that it will rule on Trump’s immunity from prosecution for charges related to his alleged attempts to overturn the 2020 election results.

Sekulow stated that the ACLJ is prepared to act on this matter and eagerly awaits the opportunity to file.

He also addressed a recent ruling by Cook County, Illinois, Circuit Judge Tracie Porter, disqualifying Trump from the state’s primary and general election ballots based on the 14th Amendment’s anti-insurrection clause.

Regarding this ruling, Sekulow remarked, “The judge’s decision appears politically motivated. She is a Democrat facing upcoming elections and likely wanted to make a statement. She overruled the Illinois State Elections board, which is not known for being conservative.”

Porter refused to postpone the decision while awaiting the Supreme Court’s ruling on Trump’s eligibility for the ballot, forcing Trump’s team to continue battling the decision in her court.

Sekulow criticized the ruling to keep Trump off the Illinois ballot as “completely nonsensical” and accused the judge of wasting the state judiciary’s resources.
