Judge Napolitano tells Newsmax that Trump could still face trial despite immunity ruling
In a recent interview with Newsmax, retired New Jersey Superior Court Judge Andrew Napolitano, now a senior judicial analyst, shared insights on the ongoing legal battle over former President Donald Trump’s claim of immunity from prosecution.
During the Supreme Court oral arguments, Napolitano stated on “Carl Higbie FRONTLINE,” that “a majority of the court is likely to find that on core presidential behavior authorities given to him under the Constitution, Trump is immune from criminal prosecution.” However, he also mentioned that personal actions with criminal implications might not enjoy the same immunity.
Furthermore, Napolitano discussed the possibility of an indictment in the Jan. 6 case and expressed skepticism about the government’s framing of Trump’s actions as personal behavior for personal gain.
According to Reuters, the Supreme Court’s conservative justices, holding a 6-3 majority, indicated support for some level of protection for presidents from criminal charges related to their official duties. The court’s deliberations highlighted the importance of balancing presidential authority with accountability under the law.
