Judge Postpones Ruling on Dismissal of Case Against NYC Mayor Adams – One America News Network

Federal Judge Dale Ho did not issue a ruling regarding NYC Mayor Eric Adams’ corruption and bribery charges, even though the Department of Justice (DoJ) sought to have the case dismissed.

The hearing was held on Wednesday, during which Ho probed the DOJ’s reasons for wanting to drop charges that were initially filed by former President Joe Biden’s DoJ, which were submitted without prejudice—allowing for potential refiling of the case in the future.
Acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove asserted that Adams’ case should be dismissed to avoid “appearances of impropriety and the risk of influencing the 2025 elections in New York City.”
“Honestly, I believe that having Mayor Adams sitting to my left is part of the issue. He can’t focus on running the city or campaigning, so I see this motion as a form of interference,” Bove elaborated.
Bove also contended that there was no “quid pro quo” in relation to the dropping of charges against Adams in alignment with the mayor’s cooperation on deportations of undocumented immigrants in New York City.
Judge Ho acknowledged that the Adams case “is a very complicated situation, at least from my perspective,” ultimately choosing not to provide an immediate ruling but promising one would be made soon.
“I’m not going to make a rash decision from the bench,” Ho remarked. “I want to take the necessary time to thoughtfully consider all arguments presented and ensure I judge this appropriately, remaining mindful of my narrow role in this matter.”
“It is not beneficial for anyone involved for this to protract; it is in no one’s interest—neither the government’s, nor Mayor Adams’ as the defendant, nor the public’s,” Ho added.
Adams himself also dismissed any notions of “quid pro quo,” asserting that he has “not committed any crime.”
“We never proposed anything to the Department, nor did anyone else request anything of us for the case’s dismissal. We’ve communicated to the Department that concluding this case would relieve a legal and practical burden affecting Mayor Adams in his official responsibilities,” explained Alex Spiro, Adams’ attorney.
Adams is facing accusations of receiving campaign contributions from a foreign entity in exchange for political favors, alongside allegations of wire fraud.
Governor Kathy Hochul (D-N.Y.) has stated that she will await the judge’s ruling before deciding on any potential actions to remove Adams from office.
It remains uncertain when the judge will release a decision, though it is anticipated ahead of the trial scheduled for April.
