Judge Warns Defense Team Of Facebook Post Made One Day Before Trump Conviction
A questionable Web posting by someone claiming to have been in contact with one of the jurors in former President Donald Trump’s New York criminal trial was brought to the attention of Trump lawyer Todd Blanche by the judge overseeing the case on Friday.
Acting State Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan sent a letter to Blanche, also notifying the New York County District Attorney’s Office of the controversial communication:
“Today, the Court became aware of a comment that was posted on the Unified Court System’s public Facebook page and which I now bring to your attention. In the comment, the user, Michael Anderson, states: ‘My cousin is a juror and says Trump is getting convicted Thank you folks for all your hard work!!!!’
Merchan’s letter mentioned that the comment, now a week old, was related to oral arguments in the Fourth Department of the Appellate Division and not directly related to the Trump proceedings.
Blanche’s office was contacted on Friday afternoon for a comment.
It is currently unknown if the individual referenced actually had a connection to a juror in the Trump trial, the significance of such communication, or if the judge is simply being cautious.
