Kansas is celebrated for classic hits such as “Carry on Wayward Son,” “Dust in the Wind,” and “Point of Know Return,” which remain popular in various media.
At 64, Platt, also the former lead vocalist for Shooting Star, shared news of his diagnosis on Facebook while maintaining a hopeful attitude.
“To those who are concerned, I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer on Tuesday. However, there’s no need for alarm as it has a 99% survival rate and hasn’t spread. It’s localized in my thyroid. I will have it removed, undergo rehab, and be back performing shortly. I truly appreciate all the positive thoughts and prayers coming my way. I have incredible support, and as I’ve been told, this is just a bump in the road that will soon be behind me! So let’s all please CARRY ON,” the musician wrote.

The Mayo Clinic explains that thyroid cancer can arise asymptomatically, leading to potential issues such as swallowing difficulties, changes in voice, and neck swelling. The disease exists in several forms.
“Our objective is to resume touring as quickly as possible,” assistant band manager J.R. Rees informed Ultimate Classic Rock. “Currently, our focus is on supporting Ronnie through this.”
“This is merely a bump in the road,” the band remarked on social media concerning Platt’s cancer diagnosis.
Kansas had canceled two shows slated for February 14th and 15th in Oklahoma, postponing them until November before the diagnosis was made public.
The band also postponed their March 1st concert in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
“The band regrets any inconvenience and looks forward to getting back on the road soon,” Kansas stated on Instagram.
Starting as a “garage band” in Topeka, Kansas, fifty years ago, their debut album, “Kansas,” was released in 1974. The group reportedly spent 200 weeks on the Billboard chart during the 1970s and 1980s according to their official website.
