Kari Lake’s $10 Million Investment in Arizona Senate Race
Kari Lake is set to launch a $10 million ad campaign in Arizona as she vies for the state’s open senate seat.
As the Republican frontrunner for the 2024 senate race, Lake plans to allocate $10 million for advertising in the fall, with an initial $675,000 ad buy this month focusing on immigration and the southern border, according to Axios.
Lake’s opponent, Rep. Ruben Gallego, D-Az., has been running ads and has outraised her by over $3 million.
Lake’s team views the border as a weak point for Gallego, who has concentrated on Lake’s previous stance on abortion and has already placed a $19 million ad buy, as per Axios.
Lake initially opposed the 1864 law banning most abortions in Arizona before expressing disappointment that the law would not be enforced. The law, which has since been repealed, would have criminalized abortion, making it a felony, as reported by NBC News.
In a recent interview on Newsmax, Lake stated that abortion is not a top concern for Arizonans and highlighted border security as a major issue.
A recent poll by The New York Times/Siena College shows Gallego leading by three points, while a previous poll by The Hill/Emerson University had Gallego ahead by two points.
Lake and Gallego are competing to succeed Kyrsten Sinema, I-Az., who chose not to seek re-election. Lake ran for governor in 2022 but lost to Katie Hobbs.
The Cook Political Report considers the race a “tossup,” while Inside Elections leans Democrat. Arizona is expected to be a crucial battleground state in the 2024 presidential election.
