On Sunday, Governor Kathy Hochul (D-N.Y) revealed that the new system aims to enhance state and local law enforcement efforts in examining the suspicious drones that have been observed over the past month.

“In light of my requests for more resources, our federal partners are deploying a high-tech drone detection system in New York State,” said Hochul.

The Governor emphasized the necessity for additional congressional support to secure more resources.

“We appreciate the support from the Biden Administration, but we ultimately require more help from Congress. Enacting the Counter-UAS Authority Security, Safety, and Reauthorization Act will equip New York and other states with the essential authority and resources needed to manage situations like the one we currently face,” she stated.

In recent weeks, drones have been frequently reported over the East Coast, particularly in New Jersey, where at least 3,000 sightings have been recorded in December alone, with reports beginning on November 18th.

This situation has caused notable frustration among local and state officials in New Jersey, especially after the Biden administration’s national security adviser downplayed the incidents, suggesting that the sightings were simply misidentified aircraft.

While drone specialists warn that the unidentified objects could potentially be linked to an adversarial source or even an Iranian mothership, the Pentagon has denied these assertions. Officials have reassured the public that there is currently no recognized threat related to the drones’ activity.
