A press announcement revealed that Perry, King, and Sanchez will board Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin flight scheduled for this spring, alongside film producer Kerianne Flynn, NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, and civil rights advocate Amanda Nguyen.

“This mission marks the 11th human flight in the New Shepard program and the 31st overall,” Blue Origin announced. “So far, the program has successfully taken 52 individuals above the Kármán line, the globally recognized threshold of space. This will be the first all-female flight crew since Valentina Tereshkova’s solo mission in 1963.”

In a segment on “CBS Mornings,” King expressed her feelings about the flight, stating she is both “terrified and thrilled.”

“I have to admit, I’m genuinely scared,” King shared with her co-hosts. “It’s true, I’m extremely anxious, but at the same time, I’m filled with excitement.”

King mentioned that she was offered this opportunity in November, and though she never envisioned traveling to space, after discussions with her children and Oprah Winfrey, she decided to accept.

“It’s hard to articulate the feeling of being both terrified and excited at once,” she shared with the audience. “It reminds me of the feelings surrounding childbirth.”

In the announcement, Blue Origin noted that Perry feels “honored” to participate in the flight.

“Katy is honored to join Blue Origin’s inaugural all-female crew and hopes that her journey inspires her daughter and others to aim high, both literally and metaphorically,” the statement read.

Sanchez, who became engaged to Bezos in 2023, expressed her ambition to motivate “the future generation of explorers.”

“If someone had told me I would someday have the chance to travel to space, I would have definitely laughed,” Sanchez stated in a video posted on Instagram. “I can hardly believe it’s coming true.”
