Kevin McCarthy has no intention of becoming the RNC Chair

Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., said he’s not interested in becoming the next chair of the Republican National Committee.

“No, no, no,” McCarthy said in dismissing a question about whether he would be willing to take the job. A clip of the exchange was posted on X by Vaughn Hillyard of NBC News.

The Hill noted that McCarthy’s comments came at the Treasure Island Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, where he was attending former President Donald Trump’s Nevada caucuses victory party. McCarthy left Congress at the end of 2023.

Current RNC chief Ronna McDaniel, faced with mounting criticism, is expected to resign from the post after the South Carolina primary on Feb. 24.

Vaughn posted: “When asked about Ronna McDaniel’s future in the role, McCarthy said: “She does a really good job – it’s up to her.”

CBS News on Wednesday said McDaniel told Trump during a meeting in Florida that McDaniel will step down.

After the meeting, Trump wrote on Truth Social that he would “be making a decision the day after the South Carolina Primary as to my recommendations for RNC Growth.”
