Former Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake believes that Donald Trump’s jump in poll numbers following the first GOP presidential primary debate was not solely due to his legal troubles. A Reuters/Ipsos poll showed Trump gaining 5 percentage points and leading with 52%, 39 percentage points ahead of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. Lake attributes this to the lackluster performance of other candidates on the debate stage, including DeSantis, Chris Christie, and Asa Hutchinson. She believes that Americans saw these candidates as inferior to Trump and preferred his ability to do the job, especially in regards to ending endless wars. Lake, who is considering a run for the GOP nomination for Arizona senator in 2024, thinks that Trump’s popularity will continue to grow.
