Lara, married to Eric Trump, the second son of the president-elect, assumed her position as co-chair of the RNC in March 2024. Speculation surrounds her future as her father-in-law prepares for a second term.

“With that significant victory, I feel my time has come to an end,” she stated. “What I aimed to accomplish has been achieved.”

Though she began her role as co-chair in March, Lara played a crucial role in helping Republicans regain control of the Senate while retaining a slim majority in the House.

Reports indicate conversations about her as a possible candidate to succeed Florida Senator Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), especially with Trump signaling Rubio as the next secretary of state.

In a November interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity, Lara expressed her enthusiasm, stating she “would love to serve the people of Florida” and “would consider” taking the seat if offered.

Recently, Lara spoke with Howard Kurtz, expressing how honored she would be to be considered for such a role.

“Over the past nine years, we’ve had ample opportunities to engage with politics and understand what the American people desire. My family and I have been Florida residents for over three years now,” she remarked. “If an opportunity arises, it would truly be an honor.”

She has garnered support from various individuals, including Elon Musk, who praised her on X, saying, “Lara Trump is genuinely great.” Senator Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) remarked on Hannity that he would be “over-the-top excited” about her potential candidacy, asserting that Republicans “could not do better … than Lara Trump.”

However, the final decision on Rubio’s replacement will rest with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.).
