“After much reflection and encouragement from many, I have chosen to withdraw my name from consideration for the United States Senate,” Lara Trump shared in a post on X.
Lara was appointed as co-chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC) in March, playing a pivotal role in Trump’s election day win, as well as securing a majority in the Senate while maintaining a narrow majority in the House.
“Serving as RNC co-chair during this critical election has been a tremendous honor, and I am deeply grateful for the incredible support I’ve received from our citizens and particularly from Florida. Your kind messages mean so much to me,” she continued.
Following her recent resignation from the RNC co-chair position, speculation arose regarding her potential candidacy for Rubio’s Senate seat. She had previously expressed an openness to fulfilling the remainder of Rubio’s term and received support for the role from Maye Musk, mother of prominent Trump ally, Elon Musk.
Additionally, Lara revealed she has “a significant announcement” set for January, though she did not disclose further details.
“I am still very passionate about public service and look forward to serving our country again in the future. In the meantime, I wish Governor DeSantis the best with this appointment,” she added.
Rubio is anticipated to receive swift Senate confirmation, and DeSantis is expected to appoint the next Florida Senator by early January.
