Thune (R-S.D.) took aim at Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) for complaining about the House’s continuing resolution on Thursday. He emphasized that if Schumer is dissatisfied with the current situation, he should have secured the government funding while still in charge.
Thune highlighted that Schumer’s refusal to consider numerous appropriations bills passed during his last five months as majority leader has contributed to the present predicament.
“I truly hope the Democrats will reflect on this situation and others that have arisen and collaborate with Republicans to reinstate the regular order appropriations process,” Thune remarked. “Continuing resolutions are never the ideal choice. However, due to the Democrat leader’s decision to forgo the fiscal year 2025 appropriations process, the continuing resolution before us is the most viable option we have to fund the government for the remainder of this year.”
Thune further indicated that it’s time for Schumer to recognize that his decisions have led to this outcome.
The majority leader stated that he aims to advance every single fiscal year 2026 appropriations bill that arrives on his desk.
