Lawsuit: Disney Pursues Compensation from Florida in Damages Claim
The Walt Disney Co. has filed a lawsuit against the new board of supervisors appointed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to oversee Walt Disney World Resort. The lawsuit alleges that the board breached its contract by not fulfilling previously agreed-to development contracts. Disney is seeking damages and a court order. The board voted to nullify multiple contracts approved by the Reedy Creek Improvement District, claiming that Disney had undermined its power. This dispute is also being played out in a separate case in Orange County’s 9th Judicial Circuit Court. Disney has alleged that Florida is targeting the company because of its diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives and its opposition to the state’s Parental Rights in Education law. Governor DeSantis has defended the education law and other efforts to crack down on DEI initiatives.
