Lawsuit Filed Against Andrew Cuomo for Alleged Sexual Harassment

The New York Post reports that the former executive assistant to ex-New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, Brittany Commisso, is suing him for sexual harassment. This comes after Commisso previously accused Cuomo of groping her during his time in office.

Commisso filed a summons in New York this week, just ahead of the state’s deadline to file lawsuits under the Adult Survivors Act. She claims that during her time working in Cuomo’s office from 2019 to August 2021, the then-governor subjected her to “continuous sexual harassment.”

This harassment allegedly included unwelcome sexual advances, sexualized comments about appearance and personal matters, relations, their dating, their sex life, and her marriage, assignment of humiliating and demeaning tasks, hugs, kisses, sexual touching of the buttocks, and forcible touching of the breast, all of which she describes as objectively unreasonable and abusive.

An attorney for Cuomo denied the allegations on the former governor’s behalf in a statement to the Post. The attorney, Rita Glavin, said, “Ms. Commisso’s claims are provably false, which is why the Albany District Attorney dismissed the case two years ago after a thorough investigation. Ms. Commisso’s transparent attempt at a cash grab will fail. We look forward to seeing her in court.”

The lawsuit comes amidst rumors that Cuomo, who resigned from office in 2021 after Commisso accused him of sexual harassment, is considering a run for mayor of New York City.

In a statement to the Albany Times Union on Friday, Commisso said, “It disgusts me that Andrew Cuomo is even considering running for public office in the wake of Mayor Adam’s alleged sexual harassment when he himself will not accept responsibility or even acknowledge his sexual harassment of me, aside from numerous other victims, while the governor of our state.”
