Lawyer Reports 5 Iranian-Americans Placed under House Arrest in Iran; Tehran Refuses to Acknowledge
According to a source, five Americans who have been under house arrest in Iran will be allowed to leave the country after $6 billion of Iranian funds in South Korea are unfrozen. The source also stated that as part of a deal between Iran and the United States, several jailed Iranians will be released. The parties involved are currently discussing the transfer of the funds to a Persian Gulf country due to minor technical issues. The United States has confirmed that negotiations for the release of the five detained Americans are ongoing. This development comes during a period of increased tensions between Iran and the U.S., with the U.S. conducting a military buildup in the Persian Gulf and the possibility of armed troops guarding commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz. In the past, Iran has exaggerated progress in talks with mediation from Oman and Qatar on potential trade. The names of three of the American prisoners have been identified as Siamak Namazi, Emad Shargi, and Morad Tahbaz, while the fourth and fifth prisoners remain unnamed.
