Leaders Observe Biden’s Israel Policies Elevating Trump
According to Politico, world leaders and diplomats abroad are increasingly of the belief that President Joe Biden’s stance in the Gaza war is actually boosting former President Donald Trump’s chances of reclaiming the White House.
Trump’s focus on “Make America Great Again” and his demand for NATO allies to pay their fair share has led many international leaders to prefer the idea of Biden getting reelected.
However, Biden’s refusal to fully break from Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Israel’s approach to the war against Hamas has caused concerns that he may lose to Trump.
Former State Department official Heather Conley, who is now the president of the German Marshall Fund of the United States, stated that some are questioning whether the U.S. is willing to take decisive leadership in the situation.
A recent forecast released by The Economist suggests that Trump has a roughly 2-in-3 chance of returning to the White House, while Biden has about a 1-in-3 chance of winning reelection.
There is a level of concern among foreign leaders that Trump could win, with former Obama State Department official Jeremy Shapiro describing it as something between panic and terror.
Recent polls have shown disapproval of Biden’s handling of the Gaza war, especially among young voters and minorities.
Historian Stephen Wertheim expressed in a New York Times opinion column that the U.S. appears less like a leader of the world and more like the head of a faction, defending its side against aligned adversaries.
Biden allies believe that a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas could prevent Trump from winning the presidency.
Biden has been pushing for a cease-fire, but Hamas insists on an end to the war, which Israel rejects.
National security adviser Jake Sullivan mentioned that Biden will urge Group of Seven nations to support cease-fire negotiations and encourage Hamas to accept a proposal backed by Israel.
Biden will also discuss ways to provide aid to Ukraine in its struggle against Russia’s invasion during meetings with other world leaders, as reported by NBC News.
