Legal Group Lodges FEC Complaint Against DA Bragg and Biden Campaign

America First Legal, led by former Trump administration senior adviser Stephen Miller, submitted a complaint to the Federal Election Commission on Wednesday. The complaint accuses Democrat Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign of election interference.

Bragg secured an indictment against former President Donald Trump on 34 counts of falsifying business records related to a payment made by disbarred attorney Michael Cohen to porn star Stormy Daniels. Trump was found guilty on all charges by a New York jury on May 30 and is set to be sentenced on July 11.

Trump has denied any wrongdoing and alleges that his prosecution was politically motivated by President Biden’s Department of Justice in an effort to hinder his chances of winning the White House again.

The complaint alleges that Biden and his allies engaged in legal tactics to remove Trump from the campaign trail, deplete his resources, tarnish his reputation, and potentially disqualify him from the election ballot, all in an attempt to influence the 2024 election.

According to the complaint, there is evidence suggesting that Bragg’s prosecution was coordinated with Biden to influence the 2024 presidential election, constituting a “coordinated expenditure” under the Federal Election Campaign Act. This would mean that Bragg made an in-kind contribution to Biden and his campaign, surpassing the individual contribution limit set by the FEC.

The complaint also highlights that Matthew Colangelo, who resigned from Biden’s DOJ to lead the prosecution against Trump, made multiple donations to Bragg’s campaign for district attorney. A significant aspect of Bragg’s campaign was his pledge to prosecute Trump.

The complaint asserts that Bragg’s office manipulated the law in an unprecedented way in their pursuit of Trump. It also accuses Bragg of violating a Supreme Court doctrine known as the “primary jurisdiction doctrine” which states that courts should defer to federal agencies on certain matters.

The FEC previously ruled that Trump did not violate the Federal Election Campaign Act.

America First Legal is calling for an investigation into the allegations, seeking to declare that Bragg and Biden’s campaign violated FEC regulations and demanding that Biden for President rectify these violations by disclosing coordinated expenditures related to Bragg’s prosecution of Trump. The group also requests that sanctions be imposed, potentially leading to criminal prosecution by the DOJ.

Dan Epstein, Vice President of America First Legal, expressed concerns over the potential coordination between President Biden and Bragg, citing evidence of influence from the DOJ, Bragg’s financial supporters, and the Biden administration.
