Liz Truss, Former UK Prime Minister, to Speak at CPAC

Former British Prime Minister Liz Truss is set to take the stage at this year’s Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), according to Breitbart News.

Truss, who held the prime minister position for a 50-day period from early September to late October 2022, will deliver her address during the annual conservative assembly just outside Washington, D.C., from Feb. 21 to Feb. 24, hosted by the American Conservative Union (ACU) in National Harbor, Maryland.

Sources told Breitbart News that Truss’ appearance aligns with a growing focus among U.S. conservatives on global successes for the political right, spanning continents including South America, Asia, and Europe.

Truss succeeded Boris Johnson as the prime minister and was subsequently succeeded by the current officeholder, Rishi Sunak. Despite no longer serving as prime minister, Truss remains a member of Parliament representing South West Norfolk for the Conservative Party.

With European Parliament elections and other global elections on the horizon, the balance of power internationally may shift from leftists to conservatives. A December article in Foreign Policy magazine cautioned leftists about the potential for a conservative resurgence in 2024, citing Taiwan’s recent presidential election as an early indicator.

The article, warning against the dangers of conservative populism, highlighted the European Parliament elections in summer 2024 as a potential turning point for global right-wing influence. Foreign Policy’s John Kampfner emphasized the historical significance of these elections, recalling the impact of the 2014 vote in the U.K. that set the stage for Brexit.

Kampfner suggested that the far right could emerge as a dominant force in the European Parliament, altering the overall dynamics across Europe. Despite the potential for a shift, he noted that mainstream groupings would likely still hold a collective majority in the European Commission.

“This might not lead to a change in the composition of the European Commission (the diminished mainstream groupings would still collectively hold a majority), but any such extremist upsurge will change the overall dynamics across Europe,” he said.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump, considered the likely GOP nominee in 2024, expressed enthusiasm for international conservative populist victories. Trump labeled the global movement as essentially a “MAGA-Trump movement,” citing Argentina’s new president, Javier Milei, who credited Trump for paving the way for his success.

CPAC, a long-standing annual gathering for the conservative movement, has consistently emphasized international conservative victories.
