Lowry tells Newsmax: Biden dominated debate with leverage, seized opportunity against Trump
According to National Review editor Rich Lowry, President Joe Biden and his campaign have orchestrated just two presidential debates, leaving presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump with no choice but to accept the offer. Lowry shared his views with Newsmax.
Lowry explained, “Biden had the upper hand in negotiations, threatening to not debate at all, while Trump was eager for debates and willing to compromise. This allowed Biden to dictate the terms, including an early debate on June 27th.”
Despite the limitations, Trump’s camp maintained its stance of being open to debates anytime, anywhere, as they believe Biden is not a formidable opponent. Lowry expressed confidence that Trump’s team sees these debates as an opportunity, despite the conditions.
Julian Epstein, staff director of the House Oversight Committee, praised Biden’s strategy of limiting the debates to minimize the risk of unscripted moments that could be detrimental to his campaign. He criticized Trump for conceding to Biden’s terms, calling it a strategic mistake.
Despite differing opinions, both agree that debates are essential for the country’s democratic process. Lowry emphasized the importance of setting realistic expectations for Biden, urging Republicans not to underestimate him.
