Luigi Mangione Secures $300K in Fan Donations for Legal Fund – One America News Network

Luigi Mangione, a 26-year-old suspected in the deadly shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, has astonishingly garnered nearly $300,000 in donations for his legal defense.

Mangione faces murder charges stemming from Thompson’s death, which occurred on December 4th, 2024, outside a Manhattan hotel.
The young man is currently confronting charges in federal court across Pennsylvania and New York. After pleading not guilty to state charges in New York, he has yet to enter pleas in other jurisdictions.
Reportedly, he will accept over $292,000 in donations collected by the December 4 Legal Committee, which created a legal fund via GiveSendGo, the committee confirmed on Monday.
“We’re excited that Luigi is accepting these contributions to ensure he can present the most robust defense possible,” stated Sam Beard, a spokesperson for the D4 Legal Committee. “The private health insurance sector in America has devastated countless lives by denying essential care and plunging families into financial burdens. It’s no surprise Luigi’s actions resonate and garner support from millions of hard-working citizens.”
The announcement of the $300,000 fund comes a week after Mangione’s lawyer, Karen Friedman Agnifilo, discussed her client with Newsweek.
“Luigi is aware of the fund and is profoundly grateful for the immense support. He intends to use this to contest the three unique cases against him,” the attorney mentioned.
The legal committee promises to continue raising funds for Mangione throughout his trial.
“We urge his millions of supporters to creatively and publicly advocate for him while he is incarcerated, in addition to donating and sending him correspondence. He enjoys receiving letters, memes, and books,” the December 4 legal committee added.
After a dramatic six-day manhunt that attracted nationwide media attention, Mangione was apprehended on December 10th at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania. He faces numerous charges in Pennsylvania, including forgery and unlawful firearm possession.
Mangione waived his extradition rights and was transferred to New York on December 19th. He is scheduled to appear in state court in New York on February 21st.
In New York, he faces eleven charges, including firearms violations, first-degree murder in furtherance of terrorism, and second-degree murder in furtherance of terrorism.
On the federal level, he is charged with one firearm offense, two charges of stalking, and murder through the use of a firearm.
Mangione allegedly targeted Thompson with the intent to send a message to health insurance companies regarding the issues related to rejected claims.
However, UnitedHealthcare reported following the tragic death of their CEO that over 90% of medical claims they receive are approved and processed upon submission, with only 0.5% of claims needing additional review for clinical or medical reasons.
UnitedHealthcare issued a statement responding to Thompson’s death as well.
“We are profoundly saddened and shocked by the passing of our cherished friend and colleague Brian Thompson, the CEO of UnitedHealthcare. He was deeply respected and a valued friend to all who worked with him. We are collaborating closely with the New York Police Department, and we appreciate your patience and understanding during this challenging period. Our heartfelt condolences go out to Brian’s family and all who knew him,” a spokesperson for the company remarked.
