Majority of Americans Doubt Fairness of NYC Trial for Trump, According to Rasmussen Poll

Only 4 in 10 U.S. voters believe that former President Donald Trump will receive a fair trial in New York City, as per a poll by Rasmussen Reports.

The poll found that a total of 51% of voters think it’s unlikely that Trump will get a fair trial in the current case brought by Manhattan Democrat District Attorney Alvin Bragg Rasmussen Reports results.

Within that majority, 31% believe a fair trial is not at all likely.

The trial began on Monday, marking the first-ever criminal trial of a former U.S. president. Trump is accused of falsifying business records in relation to a payment made to an adult film actress to keep quiet about an alleged affair before the 2016 election.

In the poll, Rasmussen asked voters, “How likely is it that Trump will be able to get a fair trial in New York City?”

Only 42% say it’s likely that Trump will receive a fair trial, with just 27% saying it’s very likely, according to the Rasmussen Reports results.

Of those who voted for Trump in 2020, only 15% believe the former president will get a fair trial in New York City. In contrast, 73% of Biden voters think it’s likely Trump will receive a fair trial.

According to Rasmussen, 54% of voters agree with Trump that the New York case is a witch hunt, with 41% strongly agreeing. Only 40% believe the trial is not part of a witch hunt, including 31% who strongly disagree with that characterization.

The survey also revealed that 85% of Republicans, 25% of Democrats, and 54% of unaffiliated voters somewhat agree with Trump’s view that the New York prosecution is a witch hunt.

74% of voters have been following news about the trial, with 33% closely monitoring developments.

The survey was conducted among 1,126 likely voters on April 16-18 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is plus/minus 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence.
