Majority of Americans Hold Negative View of Congress, According to Rasmussen Poll
A recent poll conducted by Rasmussen Reports reveals that voters hold a negative perception of Congress.
Only 20% of voters believe that Congress listens to its constituents, with a majority expressing the opinion that a random group of people could handle the job better.
The poll by Rasmussen indicates that 54% of likely voters think that a randomly selected group of individuals from a phone book would be more effective in addressing the nation’s problems compared to the current Congress. This marks a five-point increase from December 2022 and surpasses the previous peak of 52% in July 2014.
According to the survey, 27% of voters disagreed with this sentiment, while 20% were unsure. The poll was conducted by Rasmussen, surveying 1,087 likely voters in the U.S. from May 7-9.
In a March poll by Rasmussen, only 15% of individuals reported having met their Congressional representative. Additionally, 49% believed it was unlikely that their representative would meet with them to discuss issues they care about and consider their views seriously.
An earlier poll in September revealed that 70% of voters support implementing term limits for members of Congress. The idea of term limits is favored by 76% of Republicans and 68% of Democrats and independent voters, as noted by Rasmussen.
