A man was arrested on Saturday morning after a stabbing incident on Friday evening left one dead and one seriously injured, Metropolitan police said.

The unidentified man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder and has been taken into custody at a London police station.

A man believed to be in his 20s, whom police and paramedic found with stab injuries, died at the scene in Brentford, a suburban town in West London, at around 8 p.m. on Friday.

An 84-year-old woman who suffered serious stab injuries was taken to the hospital, police said her injuries were not deemed life-threatening.

The police did not identify the person arrested, as is standard practice in the UK. Suspects of crimes are usually named after they are charged.

The Met said there’s no terrorist link and police are currently not looking for others in relation to the stabbings.

The elderly woman has been identified locally as Betty Walsh. Originally from Ireland, the mother of seven worked at the local pub “The Griffin” until 1978, pub manager Gerhard Peleschka said.

“She knew everyone, everyone loved her. People knew her for years and years, she’s a Brentford legend,” Peleschka said.

Peleschka said Walsh was “fit as a fiddle,” adding it “just blows your mind what happened to her.”

He said the incident was unusual in a close-knit community where “everyone knows everyone,” and described it as “an absolutely safe area.”

Earlier on Saturday, Walsh’s grandson left a bouquet of flowers at the scene but declined to speak to reporters.

One of her sons, who did not give his name, arrived shortly afterward. He also declined to speak to reporters, except to say: “This is England. This is society.”

On Saturday afternoon, police were seen standing outside a house in Brook Road South, minutes away from the scene of the stabbings.

The door to the house remained open as one officer stood outside while another moved around inside.

The officer later emerged and shut the door behind him, and stood guard outside with his colleague.
