Many People are Excited to Work in a Second Trump Administration

There’s no shortage of Republican officials eager to work in a second Trump administration, The Hill reported.

With Donald Trump the clear front-runner for the 2024 GOP nomination, and national polls showing the former president leading in the general election or, at worst, in a tight race, names of potential administration members are being mentioned.

The Heritage Foundation, through its Project 2025 initiative, has spent the past two years building a portfolio of potential hires for the next Republican administration, The Hill reported.

Paul Dans and Spencer Chretien are leading the effort, which aims to have policy and personnel recommendations for the next Republican president.

Although some people who worked in the first Trump administration have turned against the former president, Trump will have may quality candidates to choose from when seeking to fill key positions.

“For every one former Trump official or staffer that now says negative things, you have hundreds that worked for him, that worked in the White House and in the administration that would love the opportunity to go back and work for him again, and would do so in a heartbeat,” Brooke Rollins, head of the America First Policy Institute and Trump’s former Domestic Policy Council director, told The Hill.

Talk of who might be Trump’s running mate already has been a hot topic.

Reps. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., and Byron Donalds, R-Fla., Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., and Republican South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem are among those who have been mentioned as possible vice presidential picks.

An online sportsbook late last month listed Noem as the most likely choice.

Noem was followed by former GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy. Stefanik and former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Ben Carson tied for third.

Carson recently said he and Trump have discussed what they can do “to save this country.”

Republican Gov. Doug Burgum, who’s not seeking reelection, joins Ramaswamy as former GOP presidential candidates being mentioned for roles in another Trump administration.

After winning the Iowa caucuses last month, Trump told supporters that he hoped Burgum would be “a very important piece of the administration.”

Former Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and former Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross have endorsed Trump and could serve again.

Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., said he would consider serving under Trump.

“I will help whether I’m in it or whether I’m out,” McCarthy said. “I want the country to be successful. I tell the president all the time, it’s about rebuilding, restoring, and renewing this country.”
