Marist Poll: Trump and Biden Neck and Neck, Trump in the Lead Among All Candidates

A recent survey indicates that the race between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump is currently tied.

According to an NPR/PBS News/Marist Poll released on Tuesday, Biden and Trump are deadlocked at 49% among registered voters. When looking at those who definitely plan to vote, Trump has a slight lead of 50% to 49%.

Among independents, Biden leads Trump 50% to 48%, while Trump leads Biden 48% to 42% among individuals who have an unfavorable opinion of both candidates. Trump also leads among white voters at 55% to Biden’s 43%, while Biden leads among nonwhite voters with 58% compared to Trump’s 40%.

The survey shows that voters under 45 are evenly split between the two candidates, while Trump leads Biden 49% to 48% among voters 45 years or older.

When including independent candidates, Trump leads Biden 42% to 41%, with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. receiving 11% of support. Kennedy garners similar levels of support from both Trump and Biden supporters, while third-party candidates like Cornel West and Jill Stein pull 7% of support away from Biden.

Voters believe Trump is more capable than Biden when it comes to handling the economy and immigration, but Biden leads on issues like abortion and preserving democracy. The two candidates are tied on who would better represent the United States on the world stage.

Biden is ahead of Trump by a margin of 50% to 46% in terms of who cares more about the average person.

In light of Trump’s recent felony conviction in his Manhattan trial, 51% of respondents think Trump should either definitely or probably serve time in prison, including 13% of Republicans. Only 14% of Democrats believe he should definitely or probably not be incarcerated.

The poll surveyed 1,184 voters from June 10 to 12 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.8 percentage points.
