Massachusetts Paves the Path for Gig Worker Ballot Measure
The highest court in Massachusetts has given approval for voters to make a decision on whether drivers working for app-based companies such as Uber Technologies and Lyft should be considered independent contractors. This classification would entitle them to certain benefits, but they would not be legally recognized as employees.
